B. L. Hyde
Biography
Bonnie Lee Hyde and her first
book, We the People, was published when she
reached the age of 70. Bonnie is living proof that we
are never too old to accomplish our dreams.
Bonnie has an interesting and
diverse background. She joined the U.S. Army right out
of high school and spent several proud years serving her
country. After she was honorably discharged, Bonnie met
her husband Jack
in a cocktail
lounge in Southern California. The
bartender knew both of
them and made the
introduction.
Bonnie
recounts their first date, “I
took him to a Halloween party that night. I was a bit
surprised he called
and asked for a second date. The
party had been a little wild
and he is a quiet kind of guy.”
They
were married the following year,
and had two children, a boy and a girl who are
both now grown.
Bonnie used her GI Bill benefits
to go to college. She graduated from Arizona State
University with a BSA degree in business. She later went
on to finish her graduate studies at The University of
Phoenix.
Bonnie went to work for I.T.T.
right out of college. While there, she wrote employee
profiles for the company newspaper. Bonnie wrote many
articles for professional publications, which provided
her with valuable skills she would use later in life.
In 1985
Bonnie Lee Hyde became very ill from legionnaires
disease.
By the time she was ready to return to work, she was
still too weak to work a full day, and as a result
retired.
While she hadn’t planned to retire
at that time, she found it to be a blessing in
disguise. “Although I wasn’t able to work full time for
ITT, I was able to do what I really loved, and that was
to write,” Bonnie recalls.
She scribbled down many ideas for
books and was becoming somewhat disheartened. Then she
heard a news story about a man who entered the Senate
building and shot a guard before he was apprehended. He
was eventually found to be insane.
Bonnie remembers the inspiration
she felt, “That peaked my interest, and my mind
immediately thought “what if”, that is, what if
he hadn’t been insane but had been a part of an
organized rebellion formed to fight an unjust
government?”
That inspiration was the basis for
her novel We The People. Her book took five
years to write and was all originally written on legal
pads.
Bonnie didn’t own a computer yet,
but once she convinced her husband that she needed one,
her book started to take form.
“That’s when I discovered I had
enough information to expand the novel into a trilogy.
After the second book was finished, I went back and
rewrote the first novel, which it seems, was a learning
experience,” Bonnie remembers.
After many long years of trying to
learn the in’s and out’s of the publishing business,
Bonnie found Mystic Publishers, and the rest is history.
Today Bonnie Lee Hyde is finishing
her political thriller trilogy under her pen name, B. L.
Hyde. In 2009, the second installment, We Hold These
Truths was published. She is also making personal appearances and
participating in book signings nationwide.
As an inspiration to us all,
Bonnie Lee Hyde continues to live life to the fullest
and continues to ask
the question, “what if” to the delight of readers
everywhere.
